August 16, 2008 Subject: Great conditions continue! I traveled to Julian, PA Friday AM to take an FAA post accident checkride at Ridge Soaring. I flew with Tom Knauff for a local area checkout and later with an FAA examiner in a Grob 103. All turned out well. I encourage all to go up to Julian for some ridge work or for some thermaling which is great. The environment is demanding and the views of the countryside just beautiful. Get out and stretch your skills to a new level. While I was there to be evaluated (can I land without an ambulance ride to the ER?) I also was in the learning mode. Tom Knauff is the soaring guru and his words were measured nicely during the post flight critique. A 160 mile drive along I-80 allowed me time to ponder the days events after the FAA signed me off as "good to go". If you stop learning, then you should stop flying. If you think you know it all, you are about to get an unpleasant surprise. 40 plus years and 26,000 plus hours, I am still learning. See you at the airport. Steve.
