November 30, 2007 Subject: And so it ends. My last trip as an airline Captain was over to BOS early Wednesday and an early morning flight back on Thursday morning to CLE. Weather was great and some family and friends joined me for the last Boeing adventure. Sight seeing and a celebration dinner at PF Changs in downtown BOS capped the day. After an acceptable landing in CLE, we taxied in under an arc of water provided by the CLE airport fire department. Parking brake set, run the checklist one more time, fill out the logbook and walk out the jetway. The gate area was full of passengers and friends and a long round of applause greeted me. Celebrity for a day! A small party downstairs, under the terminal and a tour of the facilities for the guests followed. One final walk out of the terminal as a Captain and now I have to take my shoes off at the security screening like everyone else. 40 years, 25,000 hours, 2 combat tours (1000 hours) in RVN, rain, fog, sleet, snow, ice, low vis CAT 3A approaches, Asia, the Pacific, the Caribbean, Central and South America, 150 nights a year in a hotel, waking up in the middle of the night with two questions (where am I, where is the bathroom?). First flight in a US Army helicopter when I was 19. What an adventure! What's next? See you at the airport. Steve.
