Subject: Ready for launch?

I want to take a moment to review the launch procedures. The safe and reliable process that we use has enabled us to do more that 3000 aerotow launches without incident. Let's keep that going.

When the wing runner asks the pilot, "Are you ready for launch?", what does that mean? It means that the before takeoff checklist on the panel infront of you has been reviewed and all items are completed. This check list is actually done prior to allowing the hookup of the rope. Once the rope is hooked up, your right hand should be on the stick and your left hand on your left leg close to the release handle. All hand signals must be done with your left hand. Keep your right hand on the stick.

Once the rope is hooked up the glider is like a gun with the hammer cocked. The slightest miscommunication will result in the tow beginning. Make sure you are ready to go or ready to release if you have any doubts.

Never allow anyone to rush you into the air. Pull the red release handle anytime you are not ready, to stop the launch process. Better to be on the ground wishing to be airborne, than airborne wishing to be on the ground. Steve.
